The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and NADRA have introduced a new Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) to enhance the SIM verification process in Pakistan. The new system uses multiple fingerprints to register SIMs and aims to eliminate fraud and forgery.
Pakistan's
telecom industry has introduced a more efficient method of verifying mobile
phone SIMs through the launch of NADRA's Multi-Finger Biometric Verification
System (MBVS). This system requires the registration of multiple fingerprints instead
of just the thumbprint, making it harder for individuals to acquire SIMs with
fake names.
The
MBVS system was introduced after an agreement was signed between the Cellular
mobile operators and NADRA at the Pakistan Telecommunication (PTA) headquarters.
As per the statement issued by PTA, cellular mobile operators are now
required to register multiple fingerprints of users on the machine, instead of
just the thumbprint.
PTA
further stated that BVS devices have been upgraded to verify thumb and fingerprints,
and the system will dictate which fingerprints to register, eliminating the
representative of the cellular mobile operator's role in the verification
process.
This
new system is aimed at protecting users' data and phone SIM usage while also
preventing fraud and forgery. Chairman Nadra Tariq Malik emphasized that the
use of fingerprints can eliminate fraud and forgery.
In
conclusion, the introduction of NADRA's Multi-Finger Biometric Verification
System (MBVS) marks a significant improvement in the SIM verification process
in Pakistan, making it more secure and efficient while also protecting users'
data.
