Utah social media law requires parental permission for kids!

The US state of Utah has recently passed two laws that ban children under the age of 18 from using social media between 10:30 pm and 6:30 am without parental consent. This move is driven by growing concerns about hate speech, misinformation, and the impact of social media on the mental health of teenagers.

The laws aim to prevent children from being lured to apps with potentially addictive content and ads. However, communications companies are expected to challenge the new regulations, and lawsuits may be filed before they take effect in March 2024.

The Utah law was signed on the same day that TikTok's CEO testified before Congress about the platform's impact on teen mental health. It is worth noting that this is the only law of its kind in the US, and it signals a shift in lawmakers' perceptions of technology companies.

Overall, the new regulations reflect a growing concern about the impact of social media on young people's mental health, and it remains to be seen how other states will respond to this issue in the future.
